• Vlog: Day 04 Seoul | Exploring Seongsu & Korean BBQ Night

ENG – Today I explored the Seongsu neighborhood, famous for its cafés and pop-up stores. I tried the most delicious fruit mochis at Han Jung Sun, the cute bear-shaped buns at Daelim Bread, and visited the Dasique pop-up store. I also went to Gangnam to meet up with a HelloTalk friend, who introduced me to a new skincare brand — one that I now use every day in my cleansing routine! Later, I went back to Seongsu to try the apple cake at Thousand, and ended the day with a Korean BBQ dinner! Hope you enjoy today’s vlog! You can…

  • Vlog: Day 03 Seoul | Moving to a New Hotel & Cherry Blossoms at Seoul Forest, Tonkatsu and Bingsu!

ENG – Today it was time to leave my Airbnb and move to a hotel near Seongsu. Before check-in, I took the chance to visit Seoul Forest and see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. For lunch, I went to a Korean-style Tonkatsu place near Namsan Tower, and I also tried traditional Bingsu for dessert. In the evening, I went shopping at Lotte Mall in Jamsil, and even took a photo at the Totoro store! This vlog is a bit longer than the previous ones — You can watch the full Seoul Series on my YouTube channel: WhatGabrielaLoves  💕   ESP – Hoy…

  • Vlog: Day 02 Seoul | I get lost in the metro, vintage café, Jjajangmyeon in Myeongdong!

ENG – On this second day in Seoul, I saw the first cherry blossoms in bloom, and on my way to a vintage café, I got lost in the subway!! (I’ll tell you more about that story later — and why it’s so important to know at least a bit of Korean). At lunchtime, I met up with a friend and her family in Myeongdong to eat Jjajangmyeon, and we had to resist the urge to buy everything! Later, I met another friend from HelloTalk for a matcha drink, and since the weather wasn’t great, I took the chance to rest…

  • Vlog: Day 01 Seoul | Airbnb Tour, Apgujeong & Gangnam Adventures + Cherry Blossom Lattes

ENG – Good morning and welcome to this new series of Vlogs that I share in my Youtube channel, and that I will be also announcing here with a short summary of what you will see. On this first day I showed a room tour of my Airbnb and also had to charge my T-money card for the first time to use on the subway. I also met a friend from Spain and together we explored the area of Apgujeong and Gangnam. We visited Blue Bottle Cafe and enjoyed a cherry blossom latte and hojicha latte. For lunch I wanted…

  • Vlog: Day 00 Seoul | My First Hours in Seoul

ENG – First Mini Vlog of my first hours in Seoul I arrived in Seoul in the afternoon, around 5 p.m. I flew from Barcelona, and at the airport I tried the Lavender Matcha from Starbucks. On my Asiana Airlines flight, I had Bibimbap for dinner, watched some Netflix shows I’d downloaded, and listened to music. When I arrived at Incheon Airport, a friend picked me up, and during the drive I got to see my first cherry blossoms of the season. For dinner, I tried 제육볶음 (Jeyuk-bokkeum) and 청국장 (Cheonggukjang) for the first time — both were delicious! And…

  • Cafes of Seoul: Ssamziann Cafe and Gallery (CLOSED)

ENG – As you may know, I usually save the things I like in Instagram folders. So this adorable teddy bear cake was on my list of places to go without fail. I ordered the chocolate one and was sad to eat it, so as a farewell, I took a thousand photos and videos, haha… The truth is, I was really surprised by how delicious it was. Normally, these things only look pretty, but in this case, the flavor and textures were perfect. I paired it with a fresh juice, since, as you know, I don’t drink coffee. This café…

  • Cafes of Seoul: Casanello Sicily (CLOSED)

ESP –  I heard of this Italian-inspired cafe because of the owner, who appeared in the popular Netflix reality show ‘Love Inferno’. And I was surprised to see him in person at the cafe and exchange a few words with him. He is truly as nice as he seemed on the show! The desserts looked amazing so I tried the peach cake and a Lemon Lady Grey tea. Absolutely delicious! The ingredients were super fresh and the flavours just perfect! The decoration is european inspired and very relaxing atmosphere. I was in the cafe for a while, just relaxing, charging…

  • Cafes of Seoul: Cafe Comfort and Komfortabel Cafe

ENG – If you want to see one of the best sunsets in Seoul, you can’t miss these two cafes, located next to each other in the Yongsan District, right on the hillside above Seoul Tower. I’ll leave the exact address at the end of the post. I had seen Cafe Comfort on Instagram and was immediately drawn to its terrace with those original benches. That day was a Korean holiday, so the cafe was closed, but you could still access the terrace directly from the street without having to pay. Right next door, we saw another terrace that also…

  • Vlog: First vlog in my Youtube Channel

ENG – This weeks post is a bit different since today I’m flying to South Korea! Finally the day has arrived, so this past week I decided to film some of my preparations for the trip. In this post you have everything you need to get ready BEFORE the trip, and in this other post I share everything you need to do AFTER you arrive at the airport. So this previous week I decided to finally post a video blog in my Youtube Channel «What Gabriela Loves» and I’d love for you to go check it out. Audio is in…

  • Shopping: Butter Shop

ENG – Today’s post doesn’t include any recipes or aesthetic coffee. Instead, I’m here to recommend a store full of adorable things. So if you’re a lover of all things kawaii (or have a friend who is and you’re looking for the perfect gift), this might be the shop for you! You’ll find stationery, home decor and organization items, plush toys, and collectible figurines (Sanrio characters, Shin Chan, Loopy, and Sonny Angels). I was really looking forward to a Loopy figurine, so I bought a blind box that I had originally planned to open in Spain, but I couldn’t wait…

  • Let’s cook! Gimbap 김밥

ENG – Today we’re going to cook a very popular dish in Korea, especially as a fast food concept, called Gimbap (김밥). It literally means seaweed (김) and cooked rice (밥). Some people refer to this dish as the Korean «sushi,» but I prefer not to, since the flavors are different and each country has its own dishes. And before sharing the recipe, I want to clarify that I don’t like fish or seafood, so I was hesitant about making it, but I decided to take a risk and try something new. And although I have to say that the…

  • Acorn Caricature: cutest souvenir from Korea!

ENG – If you are in Seoul and thinking of a cute souvenir to bring back home, forget about fridge magnets or bottle openers and get something different, like this caricature from Acorn Caricature that it’s done in only 5 minutes! I must admit I was a bit embarrassed at first since it attracts a lot of people… but the good thing is I don’t know anyone there, so I decided not to care! In fact, I liked it so much that I came back another day and asked them to draw one of my son and daughter. All you…

  • Cafes of Seoul: Rafre Fruit

ENG – If you are a big fan of fruits and desserts, you need to visit ‘Rafre Fruit‘, located next to Seoul Forest and close to Seongsu area. I highly recommend this place. In fact, this was the first cafe I had to wait for almost an hour to go in, but it was totally worth it! We chose the fig cake (I can not describe how good it was!) and the peach flavoured soda. And of course I had to try the Peach Bingsu, which was simply amazing! It was served with condensed milk, more fresh peach and some…

  • Learn Korean! 5 phrases you need to know!

ENG – As I mentioned before, when visiting a new country it’s a good idea to learn some basic words or phrases. In this first post of the «Learn Korean» series, I showed you 10 words that are very useful for a first time visitor in Korea (hello, please, excuse me, thank you, i’m sorry, etc). So in today’s post we will learn some more phrases that may come in handy.   1.  화장실 어디예요?   (hwa-jang-sil eo-di-ye-yo?) (Where is the bathroom?) If we need to ask for directions, this is what we need to say. …….어디예요?  So, if we change the…

  • Cafes of Seoul: Standard Bread

ENG – Another week discovering beautiful cafes of Seoul. Today’s turn is Standard Bread, and let me tell you, there is nothing «standard» about it! This place has one of the best breads I’ve ever tried! I went to their Gangnam store, but they also have another one in Seongsu. Starting from the outside, the garden decoration is warm and peaceful. Lots of wood and bright flowers. On the inside, each little corner is so inspiring. It’s full of details and it looks like a real bakery kitchen. There is a wide range of breads to choose from. I picked the…

  • Staying at: Shilla Stay Seodaemun Hotel (Seoul)

ENG – In today’s post I will share about another hotel I stayed at in my last trip to Seoul: Shilla Stay Seodaemun. Located in Seodaemun area (close to Gwangwhamun Gate, Gyeongbokgung Palace and more tourist places) this 4 star hotel is part of Samsung Group and offers more than 300 modern and stylish rooms, a gym area and a restaurant. The hotel is a 1-hour drive from Incheon International Airport. To get there I got the 6002  Airport Limusine bus ( I explained more on how to get to Seoul on this post), which was so convenient after so…

  • Tips: Using the Metro in Seoul

ENG – Travelling by metro in Seoul, or any other city can sometimes be a bit intimidating, specially in a city with so many lines. The Seoul subway is one of the most used rapid transit systems in the world. It has 10 lines and more than 287 kilometers in length. Going in the wrong direction or getting off at the wrong station can make us waste a lot of time, and that is something we can not afford when travelling. So the first thing we have to do is make sure we are in the right platform and direction.…

  • Cafes of Seoul: Nudake

ENG – Today we continue with the series «Cafes of Seoul» with a visit to Nudake Sinsa, a famous croissant bakery located in Gangnam area (there are 3 stores in Seoul). I was very curious about this place after seeing it in Instagram a few times, and it didn’t disappoint. The decoration was amazing, and even the little details were croissant related (look at those cute sofa legs). The quality of the baked goods was also great, which is the most important thing when it comes to food. I really wish I hadn’t had so much food that day already…

  • Let’s cook! JJajangmyeon 짜장면

ENG – This week I want to share the recipe of one of my favorite korean dishes: JJajangmyeon (in hangul 짜장면). I had it twice in Korea and it was the first thing I craved when I came back to Spain. This dish is usually ordered during moving day, and this week I was doing exactly that. I wish I could have ordered it! But we don’t have this option here, so let’s make it at home! It’s quite simple and we can adapt it to our taste. In my case, since I was going to eat it with the…

  • Cafes of Seoul: Cat’s Playground

ENG – Last week I asked via instagram which theme you wanted me to talk about in this week’s post, and this Cat Cafe was the clear winner. Cat’s Playground in located in Myeongdong area and I found it while walking by. I love cats, and I had never been to a place like this so I was very curious to see how it worked. Before you enter you must change your shoes into sleepers that they provide at the entrance and you are asked to put your belongings in a plastic bag. You also sanitize your hands and they…

  • Staying at: StayB Hotel (Seoul)

ENG – In today’s post we will talk about accommodation. In my last visit to Seoul I stayed in 3 hotels, and the third one was my favorite. StayB Hotel, which is close to Myeongdong area, was in my opinion the best choice for a first time visit to Seoul. It’s close to a few metro stations (Euljiro 3, Chungmuro, Myengdong), which is so importante when visiting the city. I literally crossed the entire city by metro! It’s also within walking distance to the centre, but no so much that it’s too crowded with tourists. Another plus is that the…

  • Learn Korean! Useful words for beginners

ENG – Today we will learn a few basic korean words that will be useful for everyday situations in a first trip to South Korea. But first of all, we should become a little familiar with Hangul (korean alphabet). It’s quite simple to learn (it will only take you a few hours to memorize), and although I don’t recommend using romanization, in this post I will include it to make it easier (but be aware that some sounds don’t exist in other languages). Basic Korean Words for Beginners 1. Hello 안녕하세요 (an-nyeong-ha-se-yo) This type of greeting is quite formal, and…

  • Cafes of Seoul: Onion Cafe

ENG – Last week I asked via Instagram which type of post you wanted to read next, and «Cafes of Seoul» won over other two other options (which I will post later on). So today, we will start this series of aesthetic Cafes, which was one of my favorite things to do in Seoul.  On my first full day I visited Onion Cafe Anguk, which is located in Jogno District, in between Bukchon Hanok Village and Insadong area, both must see places if it’s your first time in Seoul.  This cafe (as opposed to the Seoungsu location) has a traditional…

  • Let’s cook! Bulgogi 불고기

ENG – Ever since coming back from Korea, I’ve been missing the food. I find myself craving some stews, which is not usual for me.  There’s definitely something about korean food that is very comforting for the soul. So, since cooking is one of my passions, today I want to share one of the first korean recipes I learned how to cook. It’s quite simple to make, and super tasty. Bulgogi (불고기) it’s a delicious korean dish, which main ingredient is beef cut into thin slices and marinated with soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil and garlic. After some time is…

  • I arrived at South Korea… Now what?

ENG – In this post I will tell you the first steps you should follow once you arrive in South Korea. I will tell you my experience from Incheon Airport, which is the main airport for international arrivals, although some flights also arrive at Gimpo Airport. First thing you will need to do is go through passport control (which is quite simple and quick), and after that you can collect your luggage. If you haven’t exchanged some money, you will need to. But I recommend you don’t change a lot in the airport, just some pocket money. There are better…

ENG – So, here’s the situation. You have been dreaming of travelling to South Korea for more than one year, but for some reason you convince yourself it’s better to do it next spring (cherry blossoms are beautiful), or maybe you will wait until you meet someone who wants to go with you (going by yourself seems so intimidating), or you need to study more korean (although lately you haven’t been studying as you should…) Well, let me tell you something.. those are all excuses.
