ENG – During my stroll through the Anguk-dong neighborhood (Jongno-gu district) in Seoul, I decided to stop by Artist Bakery, a place I had heard a lot about and that was always packed whenever I passed by! I was in the mood for something simple yet special, so I chose the salt bread and a lemonade to accompany it.
The first thing that caught my attention was the line: yes, there are quite a few people waiting to get in. But the system is well organized: you approach a machine to register for the online queue before entering the café, and depending on which area you want to sit in or how many people are in your group, the wait will be shorter or longer. There’s also an option to order takeout. I wanted to sit on the terrace, and since I was alone, I waited 30 minutes. Some people, however, had to wait for hours.
I think for such a popular spot, my wait was reasonable. And you don’t even need to physically stay in line, as you receive an email notification when it’s your turn to enter.
The ordering system is self-service. You grab a tray and serve yourself, then bring it to the counter. They assign a number to the tray (which you received beforehand). You also order your drink at the counter, and then they bring everything to your table.
The salt bread was delicious: golden and crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy inside, with that slightly buttery-salty touch that sets it apart from traditional bread. The lemonade was a perfect complement — fresh, light, and flavorful, ideal for pairing with such a tasty bread.
The café itself has a very thoughtful and stylish aesthetic, with many original details, from the illustrations on the orders to the signage. Plus, the breads are continuously restocked, so everything feels very fresh.
From the terrace overlooking a pedestrian street, you can watch people pass by while enjoying your breakfast.
The nearest station is Anguk Station (Line 3), and it’s an ideal spot to recharge after exploring Seoul’s more traditional neighborhoods. Just make sure to plan ahead or register at the machine to avoid long waits.

ESP – En mi paseo por el barrio de Anguk‑dong (distrito de Jongno‑gu) de Seúl, decidí parar en Artist Bakery, un lugar del que había oído hablar bastante y que cada vez que pasaba por allí, estaba llenísimo! Llegué con ganas de algo sencillo pero especial, por lo que escogí el pan de sal (salt bread) y una limonada para acompañar.
Lo primero que me llamó la atención fue la cola: sí, hay bastante gente esperando para entrar. Pero el sistema está bien organizado: te acercas a una máquina para registrarte para la cola online antes de acceder al local y dependiendo de qué en qué zona quieras estar o cuantas personas sois, tardará más o menos. También hay opción de pedir para llevar. Yo quería sentarme en la terraza, y al ser sólo una persona, esperé 30 minutos. Pero algunas personas tenían que esperar horas.
Creo que para ser un sitio tan popular, mi espera fue razonable. Y tampoco hace falta estar allí en persona haciendo la cola, ya que te llega un correo electrónico avisando cuando te toca entrar.
El sistema de pedir es self service. Coges una bandeja y te vas sirviendo. Lo llevas a la caja y ellos se quedan esa bandeja a la que le ponen un número (que previamente te han dado). También pides la bebida en la caja y luego te lo llevan a tu sitio.
El pan estaba muy rico: textura dorada por fuera, interior esponjoso, con ese toque salado-mantequilla que lo hace diferente al pan tradicional. La limonada, por su parte, fue un gran acierto: fresca, ligera, el sabor perfecto para acompañar algo tan sabroso como el pan.
El local tiene una estética muy cuidada, con muchos detalles originales, desde las ilustraciones en los pedidos, la cartelería y además los panes son repuestos continuamente por lo que todo es muy fresco.
Desde la terraza que da a una calle peatonal, puedes observar la gente pasar mientras disfrutas de tu desayuno.
La estación más cercana es Anguk Station (línea 3) y es ideal para reponer energías después de un paseo por los barrios más tradicionales de Seúl. Eso sí: ve con tiempo o planifica el registro en la máquina para evitar largas esperas.
